TMI

Today at work a 70 year old man hinted about his sex life.

I know it's important to ask people how they are doing and to be interested in their lives.  I never realized how dangerous that truly was until today.  Too. Much. Information.

Pretty clever title, huh? :)

Messy Rooms

Mine, for one, is a disaster area.  Laundry everywhere, disorganized desk, just madness.

Also 310, the hotel room I just checked a guest into.  Seems like it was the last room to get done and someone must have forgot halfway through because only part of the room was cleaned.  It sucks to be in this situation because it was nothing that I did, yet I am the only person the guest has to deal with about it. Luckily we got everything situated eventually and the guest was not super upset about it. I feel so embarrassed though.  And I can't get my heart to calm down.

Muscle relaxants seem to be helping though :)

Shiny Happy People

Summer brings the wild, crazy, mean people to the hotel.  The latest example? Being a slave to Satan herself.  But praise be to God, there are also nice people.  Today was a day full of nice people.  And I made a friend!

A guest called from a few blocks away asking for directions.  I thought my directions were clear enough, two right turns and you've reached your destination!  But he called 10 minutes later hopelessly lost.  It was a bonding moment only furthered when he finally reached the hotel and checked in.

He came a little bit later for some wine...and also some beer and we got to chatting.  Like I said, good friends.  He headed back to the room, his wife, and his two little ones, and I back to work.  I like having fun with guests and this is generally the extent that I'll talk to them.  But me and my new friend had one more meeting when I walked out of the back door of the hotel and caught him and his wife making out.  Good, good friends.

That man single-handedly made the last week and a half at work worth it.  I'm just sorry I can't say goodbye tomorrow.

Stupid Questions

If I have learned one thing from working in customer service it's this: people are stupid.  Here are some questions to prove it.

Q: Where is the restaurant?
A:  You see that area behind you where people are eating?  Ya, that's it...

Q: How do I use the phone?
A:  Um...What part don't you understand?  I mean, picking up, dialing...it's all pretty tough...

Q (via phone): What is your phone number?
A:  That would be the number you just called
         *This question has happened twice*

I'm sure there have been others, but those happened yesterday.  Sometimes I honestly do not understand people.

The Hotel Chronicles

This summer I got a new job working the front desk at a hotel.  I work with wonderful people and truly enjoy spending time there.  It's such a blessing to have a job you don't despise.
But sometimes there are stupid people.  And sometimes the crazy comes, usually in a mass amount all at the same time.
Tonight was one of those nights.  It started out with stupid people.  2 different guests couldn't figure out how to get the phones to work in their rooms.  Turns out with cordless phones you need to turn them on first.  I know, pretty mind blowing right?  Then there was 209 who needed to be talked through the process of retrieving a message on his phone...twice.  This process is also written out on a piece of paper, attached to the phone!  And of course there are always the people that have problems connecting to the internet.  Most people are just having problems with their individual computers and love to blame us for inconsistent internet connections which is always enjoyable, but tonight it was a special kind of stupid.  People needed to be walked through the connection process as though they didn't even know wireless internet existed.  Example:
Jessica: Ok sir now do you see a list of networks?
Ok so now do you see Table Mountain Inn?
            Is it at the bottom?
So now connect to the network.
Do you see the button that says connect to the internet?
            etc.
See what I mean, a special kind of stupid.
But stupid people I can deal with.  It's mean people that I have no patience for at all.  Tonight a woman called asking for a manager, always a scary way to start the conversation, and then proceeded to cuss me out because someone charged a debit card that she never gave us.  She literally suggested that someone at the front desk "looked up" her debit card number and has been charging it freely with no regards to her account.  I don't even know how to respond to that.  Luckily my boss is the most amazing person ever.
Anyway, I don't want to focus on this crazy person any longer that I already have, but it makes for some fun stories.  I don't doubt more will come from TMI.
